The Merton Council Design Review Panel was scheduled to consider a pre-application for a significant redevelopment project in Mitcham town centre. The panel's review was to focus on updated plans for the site, which previously received a RED
verdict.
Redevelopment of Mitcham Morrisons
The main item scheduled for discussion was the pre-application for the redevelopment of the existing supermarket, multi-storey car park, and ten retail units at Mitcham Morrisons, located on Majestic Way in Mitcham town centre. This project, identified by the case number 23/P2886 and falling within the Figges Marsh ward, aims to create a residential-led mixed-use development. The Design Review Panel had previously reviewed this pre-application on 26 February 2025, at which time it received a RED
verdict. The current meeting was scheduled to review updated plans prior to their formal submission.
The report pack indicated that the site is subject to archaeological considerations, specifically Tier 2 Archaeology,
and is identified as Site Allocation Mi8
within the council's Unitary Development Plan/Local Development Framework (UDP/LDF).1 The agenda outlined a detailed schedule for this item, including a case officer's precis, presentations from the applicant team, panel questions, and a final review and verdict.

The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) and Local Development Framework (LDF) are key documents that set out a local planning authority's policies for the development and use of land in their area. Site allocations within these documents identify specific parcels of land for particular types of development. ↩
