Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Bath and North East Somerset and are not the council. About us
The Alice Park Trust Sub-Committee was scheduled to discuss the financial position of the Trust for the upcoming year, as well as updates on various park projects and facilities. Key topics included the Alice Park Community Garden, the tennis pavilion, play area developments, and public conveniences.
Alice Park Community Garden
The sub-committee was scheduled to receive an update on the work of the Alice Park Community Garden from Kathy Cook. The minutes from the previous meeting on 15 May 2026 noted that the garden had been awarded £19,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund. It was also resolved at that meeting that representatives from the garden would be invited to attend the Alice Park Trust Sub-Committee meetings annually to report on their activities.
Update on Tennis Pavilion
An update was scheduled regarding the tennis pavilion, following discussions at the previous meeting. The minutes from May 2026 indicated that Councillor Samantha Kelly and Councillor Oli Henman had been involved in discussions about the pavilion, which was noted as being of historical significance as one of Geoffrey Jellicoe's1 earliest designs. At that time, there was no council funding available for its maintenance, and any bid for funding would need to be developed as part of the budget setting process. The possibility of applying for listing the building had been considered but not pursued.
Finance Update
The sub-committee was scheduled to receive an update on the Alice Park Trust's financial position for the 2026/27 financial year. A report indicated that the Trust was forecast to end the year with a £2,423 surplus, which would be added to reserves. The report detailed projected expenditure, including Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with Bath and North East Somerset Council for grounds maintenance, play equipment, and tree management, as well as the public conveniences contract. Income was expected from rental agreements, events, tennis court usage, and investment returns. The Trust was also set to receive a grant contribution from Bath and North East Somerset Council to cover the costs of the SLAs. Additionally, donations for the Play Project were being ringfenced, with £1,208 received to date.
Alice Park Play Area Project Update and Replacement of Play Equipment
An update was scheduled on phase 2 of the Alice Park Play Area Project. Additionally, the sub-committee was to consider replacing broken play equipment in the sandpit area in advance of this phase. The minutes from the previous meeting mentioned that efforts were underway to see if funds allocated for replacing a broken piece of equipment could be redirected towards delivering part of phase 2. Consultation with park users had indicated that the new play area was well-received, with excitement for phase 2, and suggestions for additional slides and seating. Concerns were also raised about the size of the sand area and the need for more signage regarding dogs.
Alice Park Public Conveniences Update
The sub-committee was scheduled to receive an update on the latest data relating to the public conveniences in Alice Park. The previous meeting's minutes noted ongoing instances of anti-social behaviour and discussions about potentially moving to a cashless system or increasing usage costs to mitigate this. It was also resolved at that meeting that a Sharps Handling Kit be made available to staff in the café for emergency disposal of needles, and officers were tasked with investigating options for prepaid cards for those unable to use cashless payment methods.
Alice Park Community Garden
Kathy Cook was scheduled to provide an update on the work of the Alice Park Community Garden. The minutes from the previous meeting highlighted that the garden had received a £19,000 grant from the National Lottery Community Fund.
Alice Park Cafe Lease
The agenda indicated that the Alice Park Cafe Lease was scheduled for discussion, with the possibility of excluding the press and public from this item due to the likely disclosure of exempt information.
