The Cabinet Sub-Committee for Crime Prevention Grants met on Monday 28 September 2026 to consider applications for funding aimed at reducing crime. The committee approved funding for several projects, including CCTV installations and security improvements, while deferring others for further information.
Crime Prevention Fund Applications
The sub-committee considered a report detailing applications for funding from the Crime Prevention Fund. The primary aim of the fund is to support capital schemes that will help reduce crime and enhance community safety. Councillor Drake Davis declared an interest in several applications as he represented the Beverley and Newland ward, and therefore did not participate in the discussion or voting on those specific items.
The committee made the following decisions regarding the applications:
- Men in Sheds, Hull (CPF41-02): Awarded up to £6,579.70. This organisation provides a space for men to gather, work on projects, and reduce social isolation, which can contribute to crime prevention.
- North West Area Team (Beverley and Newland ward) (CPF42-01): Awarded up to £4,566 for the installation of CCTV on Reynoldson Street. This measure is intended to deter criminal activity and provide evidence in cases of crime.
- Application (CPF42-02): Deferred to a future meeting to allow the applicant to provide additional information.
- Application (CPF42-03): Deferred to a future meeting.
- North West Area Committee (Beverley and Newland ward) (CPF42-04): Allocated up to £3,375.75 for the installation of a bund at Oak Road Playing Fields. A bund is an earth embankment designed to prevent unauthorised vehicular access, thereby improving security and preventing damage or misuse of the playing fields.
- Application (CPF42-05): Deferred to a future meeting.
- Hull Truck Theatre (CPF42-06): Allocated up to £7,847 for security improvements. These improvements are likely to enhance the safety and security of the theatre premises and its patrons.
- Riverside Area Committee (St Andrew & Docklands Ward) (CPF42-07): Allocated £4,550 for the installation of CCTV at Everthorpe. This initiative aims to increase surveillance and deter crime in the specified area.
- Application (CPF42-08): Deferred to a future meeting.
The reasons provided for the recommendations stated that the sub-committee was satisfied that the approved applications were capital schemes that would contribute to reducing crime and making residents feel safer.
The sub-committee also agreed to exclude the press and public from the meeting for the discussion of exempt items, specifically minute 15, which related to the appendix of the Crime Prevention Fund Applications Report. This exclusion was made in accordance with Section 100(A)(4) of the Local Government Act, 1972, due to the likely disclosure of exempt information relating to the financial and business affairs of individuals. The appendix itself was subsequently noted by the committee.
These decisions will come into effect on 9 October 2026, five working days after publication, unless called in by the Overview and Scrutiny Management Committee.
