Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Kingston upon Hull and are not the council. About us
The Pearson Park Trust Sub Committee met on Wednesday 30 September 2026 to discuss updates on community safety, park maintenance, and events. The committee also reviewed outstanding actions and the ongoing work programme.
Community Safety Update
A verbal update was scheduled to be provided on issues, concerns, and operations taking place within and around the surrounding area of Pearson Park. The local Inspector from the Humberside Police was expected to present this information. The ward priorities related to community safety are to be monitored by the Area and Neighbourhood Tasking groups at bimonthly Tasking meetings, with Neighbourhood Co-ordinators continuing to update Ward Councillors through Member Briefing meetings.
Parks and Open Spaces Update
This item was scheduled to provide an update on Pearson Park, which falls under the remit of Streetscene. The briefing paper indicated that grounds maintenance is carried out by Streetscene, with a dedicated gardener on site. The Parks & Open Space Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the park and the park ranger service.
Key issues for consideration included:
- Toilet Facilities: Both sets of toilets had undergone redecoration and lighting upgrades.
- Blue Green Algae: The algae was reported as being in decline due to weather changes. Further analysis revealed a high level of organic matter in the pond sediment, with a recommendation to drain and clean the pond. Costs and a timeframe for this work were being sought.
- Pond Outlet Works: Repairs to the pond's malfunctioning outlet were planned for the winter period, including a new outlet valve and reconstruction of the outfall pipe.
- Signage: Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) signage had been installed throughout the park.
- Five a Side Football Pitch: Following the success of summer events, a re-evaluation of the location for the pitch posts was requested from members.
- Green Flag Application: The park had successfully retained its Green Flag status for 2026/27.
- Conservatory: The boiler was under repair, and the venting system was being serviced.
- Bollards: Three lockable bollards had been installed on the main path adjacent to the bowls pavilion to facilitate vehicle access during event set-up times.
