Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Kingston upon Hull and are not the council. About us
The Kingston Upon Hull Education Foundation and Hull Youth Trust met to appoint a Chair and Deputy Chair for the upcoming academic year and to consider applications for financial assistance. Councillor Tock was appointed Chair and Councillor Gardiner was appointed Deputy Chair. Four applications for funding were reviewed, with three being approved in full or provisionally, and one being declined.
Appointment of Chair and Deputy Chair
The meeting began with the procedural item of appointing a Chair for the academic year 2026-2027. Councillor Henry moved, and Councillor Gardiner seconded, that Councillor Tock be appointed Chair. This motion was carried. Following this, Councillor Tock, now in the Chair, moved, and Councillor Henry seconded, that Councillor Gardiner be appointed Deputy Chair. This motion was also carried.
Applications for Financial Assistance
The Trustees then considered applications for financial assistance from the Kingston Upon Hull Education Foundation and the Hull Youth Trust.
- E. Williams had their application declined as they did not meet the eligibility criteria.
- O. Strasser-Nicol received approval for £500 towards the cost of materials, etc., required for their course. This is the latest in a series of grants awarded to Ms. Strasser-Nicol, who has previously received £500 in October 2022 for start-up equipment and books for her university course, and another £500 in January 2026 for materials, print, and travel expenses.
- L. Hammond was provisionally approved for £500 towards the cost of a residential course. Further information is to be sought regarding a breakdown of costs before the full amount is disbursed.
- I. Winters was approved for £500 towards the cost of travel expenses and equipment for their course.
The Democratic Services Officer was tasked with advising the applicants of the decisions and carrying out any necessary follow-up work.
