The meeting was held to elect a new leader for the Southend-on-Sea council. Councillor Tony Cox stepped down from his position, and Councillor Daniel Cowan was elected as the new leader.
The meeting began with apologies for absence, with Councillor Martin Terri being noted as absent. The chair reminded everyone of the standards of behaviour and the importance of respect and courtesy during the meeting, in line with the council's member code of conduct.
The Chief Executive explained the motion for the evening, which had three elements. However, due to Councillor Tony Cox stepping down, parts one and two of the motion were deemed unnecessary. The focus shifted to part three, which was to elect a new leader.
Councillor Daniel Cowan was nominated and seconded, as was Councillor Tony Cox. A vote was conducted, and Councillor Daniel Cowan received 28 votes, while Councillor Tony Cox received 19 votes. Consequently, Councillor Daniel Cowan was declared the new leader of the Southend-on-Sea council.
