Summary
The Licensing Sub-Committee of Sheffield City Council met on 11 June 2024 to discuss three individual cases related to hackney carriage and private hire licensing. Decisions were made to extend a private hire vehicle licence, defer a review of a driver’s licence pending court proceedings, and issue a warning to another driver.
Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing - Individual Cases
Case No. 73/24: Application to Extend a Private Hire Vehicle Licence
The applicant in Case No. 73/24 attended the hearing with a representative. They provided sufficient evidence to convince the Sub-Committee to extend the private hire vehicle licence for six months. The decision was made on the grounds that there were exceptional reasons to deviate from the current policy on the age limit of vehicles.
Case No. 74/24: Review of a Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Driver’s Licence
The licence-holder in Case No. 74/24 attended the hearing. The Sub-Committee decided to defer consideration of the case until after the upcoming court proceedings have concluded. This decision was made to ensure that the outcome of the court proceedings could be taken into account before making a final decision on the licence.
Case No. 75/24: Review of a Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Driver’s Licence
The licence-holder in Case No. 75/24 also attended the hearing. The Sub-Committee issued the licence-holder with a warning regarding their future conduct. This warning will remain live on the licence for a period of twelve months. The Sub-Committee stated that any further causes for concern would result in the licence being referred back to them.
