The Royston and District Community Forum of North Hertfordshire Council met on Tuesday 11 June 2024 to discuss funding allocations for local initiatives, updates on community projects, and the status of various local organisations. Key decisions included the approval of funding for Barkway Preschool and Royston Swimming Club, as well as support for the Outside of the Box project.

Funding Allocations for Local Initiatives

The forum approved the funding allocations for the 2024-2025 period as outlined in Appendix 1. Community Forums - Opening Funding 24-25. This included a detailed breakdown of the financial support to be provided to various community projects. The decision was made to ensure continued support for essential services and initiatives that benefit the local community.

Barkway Preschool

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the funding request from Barkway Preschool. The preschool sought financial assistance to improve its facilities and expand its services. The forum approved the funding, recognising the importance of early childhood education. One councillor noted, Investing in early education is crucial for the long-term development of our community.

Royston Swimming Club

The forum also reviewed a funding application from Royston Swimming Club. The club requested funds to upgrade its training equipment and support its competitive swimming programmes. After a thorough discussion, the forum approved the funding, emphasising the club's role in promoting physical fitness and community engagement.

Outside of the Box Project

The Outside of the Box project, detailed in Appendix 3, was another focal point. This initiative aims to provide creative and educational activities for young people in the area. The forum expressed strong support for the project, highlighting its potential to offer valuable opportunities for youth development. One member stated, Projects like these are vital for nurturing creativity and providing constructive outlets for our young residents.

Community Updates

The meeting also included a segment on Community Updates, where various ongoing projects and initiatives were reviewed. Updates were provided on the progress of local infrastructure improvements, community events, and other relevant activities. The forum acknowledged the positive impact of these efforts and encouraged continued community involvement.
