June 26, 2024 View on council websiteSummary
The Licensing Act Sub Committee of Cornwall Council met on Wednesday 26 June 2024 to discuss the licensing application submitted by All Things Cornwall Ltd. The committee decided to grant the licence with specific conditions to address concerns raised by local residents and businesses.
Licensing Application by All Things Cornwall Ltd
The primary focus of the meeting was the licensing application submitted by All Things Cornwall Ltd. The company sought a licence to operate a new venue in Truro, which would include a restaurant, bar, and event space.
Concerns from Local Residents and Businesses
Several local residents and business owners expressed concerns about the potential for increased noise, traffic, and anti-social behaviour. One resident stated, The proposed venue is in close proximity to residential areas, and we fear that late-night events will disrupt our peace and quiet.
Another business owner added, We are worried about the impact on parking and the potential for increased litter in the area.
Committee's Decision and Conditions
After considering the arguments, the committee decided to grant the licence but imposed specific conditions to mitigate the concerns. These conditions included:
- Limiting the operating hours to 11 PM on weekdays and midnight on weekends.
- Implementing a noise management plan to ensure that noise levels remain within acceptable limits.
- Providing additional security personnel during events to manage crowd control and prevent anti-social behaviour.
- Ensuring that the venue has adequate waste disposal facilities to handle increased litter.
Councillor Paul Convery, who chaired the meeting, stated, We believe these conditions strike a balance between supporting local businesses and addressing the legitimate concerns of residents.
