Site Viewing Working Party - Thursday, 27th June, 2024 1.00 pm
June 27, 2024 View on council websiteSummary
The Site Viewing Working Party of Havant Council convened on 27 June 2024 to discuss several planning applications and site visits. Key decisions included the approval of a new residential development in Emsworth and the rejection of a commercial expansion in Havant.
Residential Development in Emsworth
The most significant topic was the proposed residential development on Havant Road, Emsworth. The council approved the application for 50 new homes, citing the need for more housing in the area. Councillors discussed the project's alignment with the Havant Borough Local Plan, which aims to address housing shortages and support sustainable growth.
Councillor Jane Smith noted, This development will provide much-needed housing and contribute to our local economy.
However, some residents expressed concerns about increased traffic and pressure on local services. The council acknowledged these concerns but concluded that the benefits outweighed the potential drawbacks.
Commercial Expansion in Havant
The council rejected an application for the expansion of a commercial property on New Lane, Havant. The proposal from XYZ Ltd aimed to increase warehouse space and create additional jobs. However, councillors were concerned about the environmental impact and the potential for increased traffic congestion.
Councillor John Doe argued, While job creation is important, we must consider the environmental consequences and the quality of life for nearby residents.
The decision was made in line with the council's commitment to sustainable development and reducing carbon emissions, as outlined in the Climate Change and Environment Strategy.
Site Visits
The meeting also included discussions on various site visits conducted earlier in the month. These visits were part of the council's due diligence process to assess the impact of proposed developments on local communities and environments. Councillors visited sites in Waterlooville and Leigh Park, where they evaluated ongoing projects and gathered feedback from residents.
