The Licensing Act Sub Committee of Wirral Council met on Tuesday 25 June 2024 to discuss an application for a premises licence for AK Food and Wine. The committee decided to grant the licence with specific conditions to address concerns raised by local residents and authorities.
Application for a Premises Licence - AK Food and Wine
The primary focus of the meeting was the application for a premises licence under the provisions of the Licensing Act 2003 for AK Food and Wine. The applicant sought permission to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises.
Concerns Raised
Local residents and representatives from Merseyside Police expressed concerns about the potential for increased anti-social behaviour and public nuisance. One resident stated, The area already suffers from late-night disturbances, and another licensed premises could exacerbate the problem.
Conditions Imposed
To mitigate these concerns, the committee imposed several conditions on the licence. These included:
- Restricting the sale of alcohol to between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM.
- Installing CCTV cameras both inside and outside the premises.
- Implementing a Challenge 25 policy to prevent underage sales.
- Ensuring that staff receive training on responsible alcohol retailing.
Councillors argued that these conditions would help balance the needs of the business with the concerns of the community. One councillor noted, These measures are designed to ensure that AK Food and Wine operates responsibly and does not contribute to local issues.
