The County Council of St Albans held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, 25 June 2024, where they made significant decisions, including the appointment of a new Chief Executive. The meeting also included a moment of silence in memory of former County Councillor and Leader of the Council, David Beatty.

Appointment of Chief Executive/Head of Paid Service

The council unanimously agreed to appoint Angie Ridgwell as the new Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service of the County Council, effective from a date to be agreed, expected to be in September 2024. The decision followed recommendations from the Employment Committee, which had met on 5 June 2024. The authority to finalise the starting date was delegated to the Director of Human Resources in consultation with the Chairman of the Employment Committee. Councillor R M Roberts moved the motion, which was seconded by Councillor F Thomson. The motion was carried unanimously.

Death of Former County Councillor and Leader of the Council David Beatty

The Chairman announced with great sadness the passing of former County Councillor and Leader of the Council, David Beatty, at the age of 91. The council stood for a few moments in memory of David Beatty. Formal tributes will be invited at the July Council meeting when a full complement of members is expected to be present, and when David Beatty’s family might be able to attend.
