The new structure is intended to achieve the following objectives:

more effective identification and delivery of future MTFS savings, improved overall strategic and operational financial management across all departments, a better user experience for internal and external customers, which includes a greater drive towards self-service, productivity improvements from redesigning core processes, which free up capacity to deliver greater value add, and continuous improvement through a revised management and staffing structure.

Director of Public Health

The meeting also approved a salary range of £119,467 to £131,210 for the statutory Chief Officer post of Director of Public Health, and noted that the Chief Executive will establish an appointments panel. The successful applicant will replace the current postholder, who is due to leave the role in April 2025.

The Director of Public Health is a statutory chief officer, accountable for the delivery of public health responsibilities, and the principal adviser on all health matters to elected members and officers, with a front-line leadership role spanning all 3 domains of public health – health improvement, health protection and healthcare public health.

The new Director will be accountable to the Council and managerially to the Director of Health and Adult Services.
