New Plaistow Library - Contract Award Decision
The Officer Key Decision Committee considered a report on whether to award a contract to fit out a new library in Plaistow.
Olli Construction Ltd was selected as the successful bidder to carry out the fit-out of the new library at 198 Plaistow Road at a cost of £2,113,934.00. The new library will be built in a new development by Populo Living, the council's housing company.
The report noted that the existing Plaistow Library is a Grade II listed building, but that it is too small and in need of repair. The report argued that:
The current Plaistow Library is not a suitable building for the long term. It is not able to provide a modern day service, is not flexible to use for other service provision/Council services and there is no scope for expansion as the building is located on a residential street. It is also in need of further capital investment.
The report argued that the new library would support the council's:
- Community Wealth Building Agenda 2020
- Social Integration Strategy
- Well Newham 50 Steps to a Healthier Borough Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2020-2023
The new library is expected to be completed in spring 2026.
