Summary

The committee received updates from Barnet Council and Brent Council on the Welsh Harp and noted both reports. Councillor Chakraborty thanked the committee for their work over the past year and Councillor Ambe thanked the Chair for their hard work.

London Borough of Barnet - Welsh Harp Management Plan

Matthew Gunyon, Head of Greenspaces - Greenspaces and Leisure, introduced the London Borough of Barnet - Welsh Harp Management Plan. Mr Gunyon reported that the West Hendon Playing Fields project, which aims to improve facilities at West Hendon Playing Fields, would progress with a phased approach. He explained that:

The phased approach will have an initial focus on improvements to existing facilities, with new facilities proposed for a later stage.

Councillor Mitchell raised a concern about subsidence caused by trees. Mr Gunyon asked Councillor Mitchell to encourage the ward member to raise this issue with the council so it could be investigated.

London Borough of Brent - Welsh Harp Management Plan

Leslie Williams, Project Officer, introduced the London Borough of Brent - Welsh Harp Management Plan.

Mr Williams informed the committee that:

The Canal & River Trust have submitted a Planning Application for a sculpture at Neasden Recreation Ground. The sculpture includes parts of the sluice gate mechanism that were salvaged during the 2024 works on the dam wall.

Mr Williams also informed the committee that:

Brent Council [had] launched the Staples Corner Growth Area Masterplan and Design Code Supplementary Planning Document.

The document provides guidance to support regeneration and development in Staples Corner, which borders the south-east of the Welsh Harp.

Councillor Mitchell asked for an update on the Welsh Harp Education Centre. Mr Williams advised her to contact the relevant department.
