Summary
The Cornwall Council Appeals Committee met on 7 April 2025 to discuss several requests for school transport assistance. Councillor Perry was elected Chairman for the meeting. The committee approved one request for transport assistance to Cubert School and refused assistance for Hayle Academy, Bude Primary Academy Juniors, and Callington Community College.
School Transport Appeals
The committee reviewed requests for travel assistance for pupils attending various schools across Cornwall. These requests were considered individually and were discussed in closed session, as they contained exempt information relating to individuals, in accordance with the Local Government Act 19721.
- Launceston College: The appeal for transport assistance to Launceston College was withdrawn before the meeting.
- Hayle Academy: The request for travel assistance for a pupil attending Hayle Academy from an address near Hayle was refused.
- Bude Primary Academy Juniors: The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Bude Primary Academy Juniors from an address near Bude was refused.
- Callington Community College: The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Callington Community College from an address near Liskeard was refused.
- Cubert School: The request for travel assistance for a pupil to attend Cubert School from an address near Newquay was allowed.
Exclusion of Press and Public
The committee resolved to exclude the press and public from the meeting during the consideration of the school transport appeals. Councillor John Conway, Group Leader - Non Aligned, seconded by Councillor Perry, moved that this was:
RESOLVED that, in accordance with the Local Government Act 1972, as amended, the press and public be excluded from the meeting during consideration of the following business on the grounds that they would be likely to involve the disclosure of exempt information of the following description:-
- Information relating to an individual
