May 14, 2025 View on council websiteSummary
Cambridge City Councillors were scheduled to attend a meeting to hear a pre-application briefing from a developer. The briefing was regarding the comprehensive redevelopment of the Kett House site for commercial use. The meeting was scheduled to allow councillors to ask questions and raise concerns about the proposals.
Here's what was scheduled to be discussed at the meeting:
Kett House Redevelopment
A pre-application briefing by the developer regarding the Kett House site on Station Road was scheduled. The stated purpose of the briefing was:
to give Members an insight into the initial proposals for the comprehensive redevelopment of the Kett House site for commercial use. The presentation offers an opportunity for Members to ask questions.
Kett House, located at the corner of Station Road and Hills Road, currently houses a 1960s building that was refurbished in the early 2000s, replacing the original Rattee and Kett House which was built around 1851.
The report pack notes that the site is located within the New Town and Glisson Road Conservation Area, and is near several listed buildings and structures, including the War Memorial, the Cambridge Botanic Garden, The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption and the English Martyrs and Wanstead House.
The site has been identified within the Local Plan designated ‘Area of Major Change’ (Policy 21) and the Cambridge Railway Station, Hills Road Corridor to the City Centre ‘Opportunity Area’ (Policy 25).
Meeting Purpose and Format
The agenda frontsheet clarifies that these pre-application meetings offer developers an early opportunity to present proposals to councillors, who can then raise questions or concerns to be addressed before a formal planning application is submitted. The agenda frontsheet also notes that while the meetings are held in public, they do not form part of the formal decision-making process.
