The Health and Wellbeing Board and Surrey Heartlands Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) are scheduled to hold a joint meeting. Items for discussion include the Healthy Surrey Health and Wellbeing Strategy, the impact of climate change on health, the Families First Partnership Programme, and medium-term planning for the NHS. The meeting will also include a discussion of questions submitted by board members.
Healthy Surrey Health and Wellbeing Strategy
The board is expected to discuss a refresh of the Healthy Surrey Health and Wellbeing Strategy (HWBS). The strategy is intended to address health inequalities and improve the health and wellbeing of residents in Surrey. The refreshed strategy is intended to cover the period 2026-2030.
The refresh paper sets out four key priorities:
- Giving every child the best start in life
- Supporting good mental and physical health across the life course
- Helping people to live and age well
- Creating healthy and sustainable places and communities
The board will consider a report that includes an overview of the proposed changes to the strategy, as well as a presentation.
Climate Change and Health
The board is scheduled to discuss a report on the impact of climate change on health in Surrey. The report highlights the direct and indirect effects of climate change on physical and mental health, including:
- Increased risk of heatstroke and other heat-related illnesses
- Increased risk of respiratory illnesses due to air pollution
- Increased risk of infectious diseases
- Increased risk of mental health problems due to extreme weather events and displacement
The report also outlines a number of actions that the council and its partners can take to mitigate the health impacts of climate change, such as:
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Improving air quality
- Promoting active travel
- Developing heatwave plans
- Building more resilient communities
Families First Partnership Programme
The board is expected to receive an update on the Families First Partnership Programme. The programme aims to provide early help and support to vulnerable families in Surrey. The report will provide an overview of the programme's progress, including the number of families supported, the outcomes achieved, and the challenges faced.
NHS Medium Term Planning
The board is scheduled to discuss medium-term planning for the National Health Service (NHS). The report will provide an overview of the NHS's medium-term plans, including its priorities, challenges, and opportunities. The report will also outline the implications of the NHS's plans for Surrey.
Member Questions
The board will consider questions submitted by Borough Councillor Richard Biggs and Borough Councillor Shaun Macdonald. The questions cover a range of topics related to health and wellbeing in Surrey.
