Director of Development and Corporate Property Recruitment
The primary focus of the meeting was the recruitment process for the Director of Development and Corporate Property. The sub-committee was presented with a report outlining the process and practice for shortlisting candidates for Chief Officer positions. The report detailed the job and personal specification for the role, as well as the recruitment timetable.
The sub-committee noted the process for appointment, the job details, and the progress made to date. Following a discussion, the committee resolved to shortlist three candidates for the final interviews, which are scheduled to take place on 10 February 2026.
The role of Director of Development and Corporate Property is a significant position within Camden Council, responsible for leading the Community Investment Programme (CIP), managing commercial and corporate property portfolios, and overseeing facilities management. The CIP is an award-winning regeneration programme that has already delivered over 2,000 homes and invested £1 billion into housing and community infrastructure, with a total investment of £2.3 billion planned to deliver 4,850 homes. The commercial property portfolio generates approximately £23.5 million per annum.
The recruitment process adheres to the requirements of the Local Authorities (Standing Orders) (England) Regulations 2001 and Section 112 of the Local Government Act 1972, which mandates that appointments must be made on merit. The sub-committee was advised that information relating to individual candidates, including their CVs and interview results, was exempt from public disclosure under Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, as it would likely reveal the identity of individuals. Consequently, the latter part of the meeting, concerning the specific candidates, was held in private.
