Open Council Network is an independent organisation. We report on Southwark and are not the council. About us
The Camberwell Neighbourhood Community Meeting was scheduled to discuss the allocation of funds for local improvement projects. Key items on the agenda included the Cleaner Greener Safer capital programme, the Neighbourhoods Fund, and the Devolved Highways Budget for the 2026-27 financial year.
Cleaner Greener Safer 2026-27: Capital Funding Allocation
The meeting was scheduled to consider the allocation of funds for the Cleaner Greener Safer (CGS) capital programme for the Camberwell Neighbourhood. This programme, which has been running since 2003, aims to fund projects that improve local areas, making them cleaner, greener, or safer. The report pack indicated a recommendation to approve the reallocation of £86,300 from previous years' underspends and project cancellations, alongside an allocation of £127,800 for new projects. This would bring the total available funds for the 2026-27 CGS programme in Camberwell to £214,100. The CGS programme aligns with the council's policies on sustainability, regeneration, and community engagement, as outlined in the Fairer Greener Safer – Southwark Council Delivery Plan 2022-2026
and the Streets for People Strategy 2023-2030
. The report pack detailed a list of 56 applications received for CGS funding, covering a range of projects from community gardens and playgrounds to environmental improvements and security measures.
Neighbourhood Grants (Neighbourhoods Fund 2026-27)
The Neighbourhoods Fund (NsF) is the revenue element of Southwark Council's Neighbourhoods Programme, designed to support small-scale, community-led activities. The meeting was scheduled to consider the allocation of £60,000 for the 2026-27 NsF in the Camberwell neighbourhood. This fund supports activities such as events, workshops, training, and community development. The report pack noted that any unallocated funds from previous years would be carried forward. The allocation of these funds is guided by criteria focused on fostering community cohesion, encouraging respect, promoting resident responsibility for their neighbourhoods, and enhancing the local environment. The report pack included a summary of 33 applications received for the Neighbourhoods Fund, with requested amounts ranging from £500 to £50,000, covering a diverse array of community projects.
Devolved Highways Budget 2026-27: Capital Funding Allocation
The meeting was also scheduled to address the allocation of funds for the Devolved Highways Budget (DHB) programme for the Camberwell Neighbourhood. The DHB programme allows neighbourhood areas to spend funds on their priorities for highway renewal and maintenance. The report pack recommended approving the reallocation of £121,400 from previous years' underspends and project cancellations, alongside an allocation of £76,190 from programmed capital expenditure. This would result in a total of £197,590 available for the 2026-27 DHB programme in Camberwell. The DHB programme supports a range of minor traffic and highway capital schemes, including footway and carriageway resurfacing, traffic calming measures, and accessibility improvements. The report pack listed four applications for the DHB programme, with projects including tree planting, playground resurfacing, and cycle hangars.
