The Health Committee of the Greater London Authority Council met on Monday 9 March 2026 to discuss the ongoing measles outbreak in north London. The committee noted the report on the outbreak and delegated authority to the Chairman to agree any output arising from the discussion. The committee also ratified the calling of the meeting due to its urgent nature.
Measles Outbreak
The Health Committee received a report providing background information on the measles outbreak in north London. The committee heard evidence from invited guests, including representatives from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Enfield Council, NHS England, and the Greater London Authority (GLA). The discussion focused on understanding the measures being taken to contain the outbreak, inter-borough and GLA collaboration, the impact on public services, and strategies to improve vaccination rates in Enfield and across London.
During the meeting, the Consultant in Public Health for NHS England (London) agreed to provide further information on the Key Performance Indicators within the Action Plan aimed at achieving the 95% measles immunisation target for London.
The committee resolved to note the report and the subsequent discussion. Furthermore, authority was delegated to the Chairman, in consultation with party Group Lead Members, to agree any output stemming from the discussion.

The committee noted the list of offices held by Assembly Members, which were considered disclosable pecuniary interests. This action was taken in accordance with the requirements for declaring interests at meetings.
Ratification of Meeting Call
The Chairman of the Health Committee confirmed that the meeting had been called as a matter of urgency. This was in response to the unprecedented measles outbreak in north London and was conducted in accordance with Section 100B(4)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972 and Standing Order 1.7.
