The Strategic Development Committee of Newham Council met on Tuesday 10 March 2026 to discuss three planning applications. The committee was scheduled to consider proposals for a new residential building at Royal Wharf, an extension to a hotel on Dockside Road, and variations to an existing planning permission for residential units on New Barn Street.

The committee was scheduled to consider the construction of a new building at Royal Wharf Plot 14B comprising 113 residential units, ancillary gym space, blue badge parking, cycle parking, and landscaping. A report was scheduled for discussion regarding the erection of a five-storey extension to the existing hotel at 1018 Dockside Road, West Beckton, to provide 77 additional hotel bedrooms. The proposal also included a single-storey extension to the existing cafe/restaurant, a change of use for a vacant retail unit to a meeting room ancillary to the hotel, and associated landscaping works. The committee was scheduled to consider a Section 73 application to vary conditions attached to a previous planning permission (21/03040/LA3) for the demolition of existing buildings and the erection of two blocks to provide 32 residential units. The proposed variations related to approved plans and drawings, and materials requiring subsequent approval, to reflect minor design alterations and updates to approved plans and material lists. The report pack indicated a recommendation for approval. This was detailed in the document 26.00065.VAR SDC Report.
The meeting was also scheduled to include the confirmation of the minutes from the previous meeting held on 10 February 2026, and a session for declarations of interest. Members were reminded of the legal advice regarding the determination of planning applications, which requires them to have regard to the development plan and any other material considerations.
