The Licensing (Premises) Sub-Committee of Buckinghamshire Council is scheduled to meet on Tuesday 17 March 2026. The primary item on the agenda is an application to vary the premises licence for The Griffin pub in Amersham.
Application to Vary Premises Licence for The Griffin
The committee is scheduled to consider an application to vary the premises licence for The Griffin, located at 12 The Broadway, Amersham, HP7 0HP. The application, submitted by Poppleston Allen Solicitors on behalf of The Griffin Amersham Limited, seeks to amend the licensed area and permitted hours for licensable activities.
Specifically, the application proposes to:
- Vary the ground floor plan to reflect alterations to the bar and the addition of a temporary bar in the external area.
- Include an additional first-floor area, known as the
Assembly Room,
as part of the licensed premises. - Amend the permitted hours for licensable activities to apply to the
Assembly Room.
The proposed hours for the sale of alcohol in this new area are daily from 10:00 to 23:00, with the premises open to the public daily from 09:00 to 23:30.
The application also seeks to add specific conditions to the licence, including that certain existing conditions will not apply to the Assembly Room
and that the premises will adopt and maintain a Noise Management Plan and dispersal policy for this area.
The report pack indicates that relevant representations have been received from the Local Environmental Health Authority (Head of Environmental Health) and four other persons. These representations primarily raise concerns regarding the prevention of public nuisance, citing issues with noise from music and patrons, and the potential for increased events in the Assembly Room
to exacerbate these problems. Conversely, eleven representations in support of the application have also been received, highlighting the premises as well-managed and stating that no issues have been experienced regarding the promotion of licensing objectives.
The committee will need to consider these representations alongside the council's adopted Licensing Policy1 and national guidance issued under Section 182 of the Licensing Act 20032. The report details various policy considerations, particularly concerning the prevention of public nuisance, and outlines the options available to the sub-committee, which include granting the variation with or without conditions, or rejecting the application entirely.
The meeting documents available for review include the Agenda frontsheet and the Public reports pack.
