Proposed Road Humps - West Street, Warwick

Councillor Shaw approved the installation of a road hump on West Street, Warwick. The decision was made after considering representations received during the consultation phase. One objection was lodged, citing concerns about noise and vibration impacting a local guesthouse business, and suggesting alternative locations for traffic calming. Officers responded that the proposed hump was intended as a road safety feature and that its design would ensure safe traversal at appropriate speeds. The local member, Councillor John Holland, had collaborated on and supported the proposals.

Proposed Road Humps - Smarts Road, Bedworth

Six sets of speed cushions and one raised table at the junction of Smarts Road and Alice Close in Bedworth were approved for construction. This traffic calming scheme is a condition of planning application number 0338716, requiring its installation before more than 50% of dwellings in a new housing development can be occupied. While there was support for the measures, several objections were received. Concerns included the potential ineffectiveness and safety of the design for vulnerable road users, health impacts from vibrations, and the belief that resources could be better allocated. Some residents also raised concerns that the measures on Smarts Road might divert traffic to All Saints Road, which they believe is already experiencing increased volumes and speeding. Adoption of Moving Traffic Enforcement Powers

Warwickshire County Council will undertake public consultation on the civil enforcement of specific moving traffic order contraventions. This decision aims to address the limited capacity of Warwickshire Police to enforce these contraventions, which has led to persistent non-compliance in various locations. The council will also consult with the Chief Constable of Warwickshire Police. If approved, the council will apply to the Department for Transport for a Designation Order under Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004¹ to adopt these powers. This could lead to camera enforcement at identified problem sites, such as prohibited turns, yellow box junctions, and bus lane misuse. The financial implications suggest a potential for net additional income, which, by law, must be reinvested in transport improvements.
