Content
That the Carlisle City Centre Public Spaces
Protection Order (PSPO), made by Cumberland Council on 15 November
2024 under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014,
be varied to extend its coverage to include Rickerby Park,
Botchergate, Court Square and the Sheepmount, as shown on the
attached map. This decision is taken under delegated authority
granted by the Executive on 23 July 2024, following consultation
with the relevant Portfolio Holder
Reasons for the decision
The decision supports
priorities around safe and sustainable communities by tackling
anti-social behaviour and ensuring public spaces are safe and
accessible.
Alternative options considered
Not to vary the PSPO – rejected, as this
would leave identified hot spot areas without PSPO coverage,
limiting the ability of police and council to respond effectively
to anti-social behaviour.
