Purpose

Seeking approval to proceed
with the final version of our revised Allocations policy, moving
away from a Choice Based Lettings model to a
‘direct-lettings’ model. This follows the full public
consultation held earlier in the spring of 2025.

The consultation showed
overwhelming support for all proposed changes to the policy and
will offer,

ü
A simpler allocation
model and process - that has the capacity to reduce re-let times
and rent loss.
ü
Greater clarity – with offers of social
housing are made to those applicants with the greatest housing
need.
ü
More scope to balance offer made - between
households in temporary accommodation with others waiting
list.
ü
Retains key aspect of choice – with applicants
still able to:

§
Express a preference over the areas where they would
prefer to live.
§
Decline at least one offer made without
sanction.
§
Retain ability to challenge reasonableness of any
offer made.
