Decision
Establishment of Community Safety Grant fund
Decision Maker: Cabinet
Outcome: Recommendations Approved
Is Key Decision?: No
Is Callable In?: No
Date of Decision: October 16, 2025
Purpose:
Content: Decision RESOLVED that Cabinet: 1. Ratified the creation of a Community Safety Grant Fund of £50,000 to support local synagogues in implementing additional safety measures. 2. Agreed that the funding be provided from the General Contingency Budget. Reasons for decision 1. Cabinet are asked to ratify the decision taken by the Leader following consultation with Cabinet Members, political group leaders and senior officers. 2. Given the spread of facilities throughout the borough catering for the Jewish Community; this was done as an urgent action to provide resources and reduce the levels of concern in the Hertsmere Jewish Community following the attacks on synagogues in the UK. 3. It was impractical to delay the decision. Alternative Options Considered 1. The Cabinet could choose not to provide resources for direct reassurance to the community. However this would go against the Hertsmere Vision 2024-27 which includes “Keep our communities safe” and the specific area of “Continue to work together with the voluntary sector to support our residents”. 2. The Cabinet could have delayed the decision to be formally made at the meeting on the 16 October, however that would have created almost a two week delay and undermined the benefits any support could have provided.
