Content: 10.1 The Committee considered a report of the Director of Neighbourhood Services which introduced recommended changes to the rent arrears recovery policy.     10.2 RESOLVED: That the Housing Policy Committee:- (a)  Notes the outcome of the tenant consultation; and (b)  Notes the recommended changes and approves the revised Rent Arrears Recovery Policy in the form attached at Appendix B of the report.   (NOTE: Part (a) was agreed unanimously, for part (b) the result of the vote on the resolution was FOR - 6 Members; AGAINST - 0 Members; ABSTENTIONS – 1 Member)          10.3 Reasons for Decision     10.3.1 The updated Policy will help ensure that rent and arrears are collected and so helps to protect the HRA. Tenants’ circumstances will be considered, and support provided where needed, and when tenants engage. Firm but fair action will be taken against those tenants that do not engage or choose not to prioritise their rent payments. This will enable the Council to continue the provision of providing homes to its tenants, and ensure equality of opportunity for people wo have affordable housing to live in.         10.4 Alternatives Considered and Rejected     10.4.1 No alternative options were considered. The Rent Arrears Recovery Policy commits to being reviewed every 3 years. Consultation with customers and partners is required to ensure the Policy is reflective of the views of all stakeholders.
