Purpose: To ensure that the Council is able to submit its preference for the proposed unitary council as part of the government’s local government reorganisation plans.
Content: Cabinet: a) Noted the content of the report and the accompanying draft business cases for Options A-E for Local Government Reorganisation across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough; b) Noted the feedback from the Scrutiny and Overview Committee held on 13 November, at paragraph 40 of the report; c) Noted the debate held at the Extraordinary Council on 24 November 2025 and the recommendation from Council; d) Approved the recommendation from Council that Option B be submitted as the Council’s response to the proposed reorganisation of local government in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough; e) Delegated authority to the Chief Executive and Leader to make any minor amendments to the final submission document. The Chair of Scrutiny and Overview Committee and the Chair of Council agreed that this decision was urgent and, as such, should not be subject to call-in due to the deadline set by Government for the submission of final LGR proposals of 28 November 2025.
