Purpose: The Council has ambitious plans to deliver new homes across the borough at scale and across different tenures to meet local housing needs. In support of this, the proposal set out in this report is to take a proactive approach delivering new homes that meets local needs on land owned by the Council. This will involve closer collaboration with Registered Provider (RPs) partners and, through the Council’s own asset disposal plans, making better use of publicly owned land to unlock the delivery of new social and affordable homes.
Content: RESOLVED That Executive Cabinet APPROVE: (i) That the Director of Strategic Growth in consultation with the Deputy Leader (Executive Member for Growth, Homelessness and Housing) and the Executive Member for Finance and Resources is delegated to oversee the eligible spend of the commuted sums budget to progress delivery of social and affordable homes. (ii) For the sites detailed in the report to be declared surplus to Council requirements (iii) That the Director of Strategic Growth is to lead on formal discussions with RP Partners on all sites identified by the Strategic Growth Board, as detailed in Appendix 1, which have been deemed surplus to requirements by Executive Cabinet to determine a programme of site disposals including type, tenure and mixture of homes to be delivered. That Executive Cabinet NOTE: (iv) That a further report will be submitted to Cabinet seeking approval to progress with disposals of sites to individual RP Partners, as this initiative progresses.
