Purpose: To approve the Review Of Babergh And Mid Suffolk Hackney Carriage And Private Hire Licensing Policy 2024-2029
Content: It was RESOLVED: - 1.1 That Cabinet adopt the proposed policy to take effect on 1 st October 2024. REASON FOR DECISION The Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy has been reviewed and drafted following changes to legislation, best practice, and statutory guidance. Engagement with the taxi trade has been a significant part of this process. The consultation highlighted some items for further discussion and consideration by the Licensing and Regulatory Committee. These items were determined and agreed by Licensing Regulatory Committee on 25 th July 2024. It is recommended that this new policy is adopted to ensure the Council is up to date, transparent and consistent with a licensing framework for hackney carriage and private hire licences. Alternative Options Considered and Rejected: There is an option not to adopt the policy, however the policy has been approved by Licensing Regulatory Committee. This is not recommended as the policy is deemed to be effective, reflect best practice and procedures contained with statutory guidance and standards.
