General Licensing and Registration Sub-Committee - Tuesday, 3 December 2024 10.45 am
December 3, 2024 View on council websiteSummary
The General Licensing and Registration Sub-Committee of North Yorkshire Council met on Tuesday 03 December 2024 and agreed to a short adjournment of their only item of business.
Review of a Dual Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver Licence
The Sub-Committee was due to review a driver's licence at this meeting. Before the meeting started, the committee agreed rules about how the meeting should be run, including a rule that allows the meeting to be held in private in some circumstances. The committee then decided to use this rule, and to exclude the press and public from the meeting on the grounds that it involved the likely disclosure of exempt information
.1
Once the meeting was being held in private, the committee decided to adjourn without making a decision. This was because the subject of the licence review was not present at the meeting. The committee heard from their Licensing Enforcement Officer who confirmed that they had not been able to contact the licence holder before the meeting. The Sub-Committee decided to adjourn the meeting so that the licence holder could be contacted and given another opportunity to attend the meeting and present their case

Councils are allowed to hold meetings in private if they believe that doing so is in the public interest. They can only do so in a limited set of circumstances that are set out in law. The relevant law in this case is Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972. You can read it online on the legislation.gov.uk website. ↩
