The Sevenoaks Joint Transportation Board meeting included applications for disabled parking bays, updates on several local transport schemes, and a report on the results of the consultation on extending the 20mph zone in Riverhead and Chevening.

Proposed extension of the 20mph zone in Riverhead and Chevening
The proposal was to extend the existing 20mph zone to include stretches of Chevening Road, Barnfield Road, Bullfinch Lane, Chesterfield Drive, Chipstead Lane, Elmstead Close, Stanhope Way, and Witches Lane. The report contained the results of the public consultation on these proposals.
The proposal is considered to be evidence led, self-explaining and encourages self-compliance.

Applications for Disabled Persons Parking Bays
The Board was scheduled to receive a report on new applications for disabled persons parking bays. The report included details of four applications that had been approved for progression and eleven that had been declined.
Highways Forward Works Programme
The Board was scheduled to receive a report on the Highways Forward Works Programme. This report provided an update on the schemes that have been approved for construction in 2024/25 and 2025/26.
Active Travel Update
The Board was also scheduled to receive a report on Active Travel schemes. This report provided an update on several schemes funded by the Active Travel Fund, including the Sevenoaks East-West walking, wheeling and cycling route, and the Otford to Sevenoaks walking, wheeling and cycling route.
Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
The Board was scheduled to receive a report that provided an update on Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure in Sevenoaks. The report explained Kent County Council’s role in facilitating the transition to electric vehicles, with the installation of charging points across the county.
Sevenoaks Townwide 20mph Scheme Update
The Board was scheduled to receive a report on the progress of the Sevenoaks Townwide 20mph speed limit extension. The report noted that the scheme was implemented in August, and the Traffic Order has been made permanent. The report also noted that vehicle speeds will be monitored at various locations over the next 12-24 months to determine the effectiveness of the scheme.
