Summary
The Admissions Committee of Sheffield City Council will meet to consider a report on a number of home to school transport appeals. They will also note the decisions that have been made in relation to school admissions under delegated powers.
Home to School Transport Appeals
The committee will consider an appeal against the decision to refuse a request for a home to school travel bus pass.
The report pack contains the following explanation of how this process works:
Vicky Hitchen (Customer Services) explained the Stage 1 review and Stage 2 appeals process regarding the City Council’s Home to School Transport Policy.
The report also reveals why the original application for a travel pass was refused.
Ms Hitchen informed the Committee of the reasons why the request for a home to school travel pass had been refused at Stage 1. The Committee were advised that the child was attending a school based upon parental choice, that was not a qualifying school.
The report pack says that the appeal was made on the basis that an older sibling of the child already attends Meadowhead School Academy Trust.
The appellant explained the reason for his preference of Meadowhead School Academy Trust, this being that an older sibling attended that school, and he wished both children to attend the same school.
Decisions Made Under Delegated Powers
The Committee will note the decisions made by the Strategic Director of Children's Services under delegated powers since their last meeting on 22 October 2024.
The agenda for the meeting says that the relevant reports were not made public because:
they contain exempt information described in paragraphs 1, 2 and 3 of Schedule 12A to the Local Government Act 1972 (as amended)
