The Licensing & Gambling Sub-Committee of Liverpool Council scheduled a meeting to take place on 27 August 2025. The agenda included a review of the premises licence for MP Food & Wine. Councillors were also asked to declare any conflicts of interest.
Premises Licence Review - MP Food & Wine
The sub-committee was scheduled to consider an application submitted by Merseyside Police to review the premises licence for MP Food & Wine at 1 Southbrook Way, Liverpool, L27 1YT. According to the report pack, the review was requested due to concerns about the prevention of crime and disorder, and the prevention of public nuisance.
MP Food & Wine's current licence permits the sale of alcohol (for consumption off the premises) from 06:30 to 23:00, Monday to Sunday, with opening hours from 06:00 to 23:00. Ragitha Kanthanathan is named as both the premises licence holder and the designated premises supervisor.
A representation from Constable Nicola Ireland of Merseyside Police was included in the report pack. Constable Ireland stated that:
Merseyside Police is of the opinion that this premises is undermining the licensing objectives of the Prevention of Crime & Disorder, Public Safety This can be evidenced by the repeated sales of illicit products and repeated breaches of licence conditions that were put in place to prevent street drinking and Anti Social Behaviour that is associated with the undermining of the objectives.
The report pack also outlined the options available to the sub-committee, including modifying the licence conditions, excluding a licensable activity, removing the designated premises supervisor, suspending the licence (for up to 3 months), or revoking the licence.
