September 1, 2025 View on council websiteSummary
The General Licensing Committee met to discuss several applications for hackney carriage1 and private hire driver licences. One application was adjourned because the applicant could not attend, one was withdrawn, one was approved, and two were refused. The committee also dealt with administrative matters.
Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Driver Licence Applications
The General Licensing Committee considered eight applications for hackney carriage and private hire driver licences. These applications were discussed in closed session, as they involved the disclosure of exempt information as defined in Paragraph 12 of Part 4 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 19722.
- Case 1: The application was adjourned because the applicant was unable to attend the meeting.
- Case 2: The application was approved after the committee reviewed a private report, heard representations from all parties, and considered the council's Taxi Licensing Policy.
- Case 3: The applicant withdrew their application before the meeting.
- Case 4: The committee refused the application, which was for a renewal but was incorrectly listed as such due to an administrative error. The refusal was based on the nature of a conviction/caution and inconsistencies with the submissions.
- Case 5: The committee refused the application due to the serious nature of allegations, an adult caution, and inconsistencies with the submissions.
- Cases 6, 7 & 8: The outcomes of these applications were not recorded in the minutes of the meeting.
