Here is a summary of the scheduled discussions for the Area Committee 06 meeting. The meeting was scheduled to include updates from Bristol City Council departments, and a discussion on local priorities. A report from the St George Community Association was also scheduled to be discussed.
St George Community Meeting
Councillor Abi Finch was scheduled to present a report from the St George Community Meeting that took place on 11 May 2025 at the St George Community Centre 1. The meeting was organised by the St George Community Association, the Community Connector Organisation for Area Committee 6 (St George). Councillors Abi Finch, Cara Lavan, Fabian Breckels and Rob Bryher also attended.
At least 15 members of the public attended the meeting. The report in the public reports pack noted that suggestions and ideas raised at the meeting had been passed on to local councillors, with requests relating to routine maintenance passed on to relevant council teams, and concerns around crime and policing passed on to the police.
The report also included a summary of requests and concerns that are area specific and would require additional funding to resolve them. These included:
- Transport
- Requests for speed bumps on Conham Road, Lyndale Road, Meadow Vale, Foxcroft Road, Park Crescent and Lake View Road.
- A request to make Chalks Road one-way.
- A request for a traffic mirror at Foxcroft Road/Park Crescent/Lake View.

- Requests for pedestrian crossings at Troopers Hill Road and Chalks Road.
- A request for a residents parking scheme.
- A request to tackle pavement parking on Beaufort Road.
- A suggestion to paint a line on pavements to allow cars to park and leave room for pedestrians.

- Green spaces
- Requests relating to St George Park, including play area surfacing, replacing old park benches, adding picnic benches, a sign at the duck feeding platform explaining why bread is unsuitable for birds, lake marginal planting, a plan to populate the lake with more fish, and new or fixed public toilets.
- Waste & Litter
- Issues reported for recycling collections on Kennion Road and Morse Road.
- Littering on Beaconsfield Road outside the Labour Club.
- Flytipping and littering around Aldi on Church Road.
- A suggestion for signage to deter littering.

- A request for more trees along Crews Hole Road, at the shopping precinct by Nags Head Hill and Kingsway, and along main roads such as Blackswarth Road and Avonview Cemetery.
The report recommended that the committee notes the contents of the report.
Public Forum
The supplementary agenda included statements and questions submitted by members of the public.
Rob Acton-Campbell, as Chair of St George Community Association, submitted a statement regarding St George Community Meetings, noting that a further meeting was held on Sunday 14th September, and that a 'We Said, We Did' update, prepared by councillors, was distributed at that meeting to show the action that had been taken since the last meeting. The update can be seen at: https://www.troopers-hill.org.uk/meetings/YouSaidWeDidSept25.pdf
John Redmond submitted a question asking:
What is the full cost of implementing the bus gate scheme in Barton Hill including the pavement paintings and Kelly brothers cost plus the first class postage and ETM.
Carlo Giosio submitted a question regarding the junction between Church Road and Blackswarth Road 3:
Since the implementation of the EBLN, the junction between Church Road and Blackswarth Road has become increasingly congested. One of the main issues is the limited turning options at this intersection, which has made navigation more difficult—particularly for residents living within the EBLN area.
Additionally, the lack of alternative routes and the restricted turning options increase the risk of accidents and leave no viable detour in case of an incident, which could cause complete traffic gridlock.
Could you please let us know if there are any plans to improve this junction and to allow turning in all directions to ease traffic flow and improve safety?
Updates from Bristol City Council Departments
The agenda included verbal updates from the following Bristol City Council departments:
- City Transport
