Naming of New Streets at Sholden

The meeting included a decision notice for a delegated decision made by Councillor Gordon Cowan, Portfolio Holder for Transport, Licensing and Environmental Services, on 31 July 2025, concerning the naming of six new streets at Phase 2A of a development on land south-west of Sholden Drive, Sandwich Road, Sholden.

The council has a statutory duty under Section 17 of the Public Health Act 1925 to consider applications for new street names.

The decision was to name the new streets Wellard Drive, Elvery Way, Hooper Close, Capp Close, Emmerson Close and Bushell Close.

The Public Reports Pack includes supporting information that indicates that the Royal Mail Address Development Team, Kent Police Headquarters, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Sholden Parish Council, Deal Town Council and the Ward Councillors were consulted on the proposed street names, and no objections were received.

A street consultation plan and location plan are included in the report pack. A layout plan indicates the locations of affordable housing units, visitor bays, refuse collection points, and indicative street name sign locations.
