Maldon Council is holding an extraordinary meeting where councillors will be asked to consider the Mayland Neighbourhood Plan, and a business case for local government reorganisation in Essex. Councillors will also be asked to approve a Building Control Policy and a revised Health and Safety Policy.
Local Government Reorganisation
Councillors will be asked to consider a report on local government reorganisation in Essex, specifically a business case for creating five unitary authorities1. The report is titled, Local Government Reorganisation: Creating A Greater Future For Essex Five Unitary Authority Business Case.
Mayland Neighbourhood Plan
The council will be asked to consider the Making the Mayland Neighbourhood Plan report.
Building Control Policy 2025-2028
The council will be asked to approve the Building Control Policy and Procedures 2025 - 2028. The Strategy and Resources Committee has recommended that the Assistant Director – Planning and Implementation be granted delegated powers to amend the Building Control Policy and Procedures 2025 - 2028, in consultation with the Building Control Team Manager, as and when required, to ensure they remain up to date and functional, and that any changes are reported to the Strategy and Resources Committee for noting. The Building Control Policy and Procedures 2025 - 2028 is attached as APPENDIX 1 to the Strategy and Resources Committee meeting minutes of 24 July 2025.
Revised Health and Safety Policy and Statement of Intent
The council will be asked to adopt the revised Health and Safety Policy and Statement of Intent, subject to amendments detailed in the minutes of the Strategy and Resources Committee. The council will also be asked to note the roles and responsibilities of the Leader of the Council, committee members and key staff, and to note the annual review period. The revised Health and Safety Policy is attached as APPENDIX 2 to the Strategy and Resources Committee meeting minutes of 24 July 2025.
