A mixed-use development including a retail unit and student accommodation at Land South of South College, The Drive, Durham, DH1 3LD was approved, and a change of use application for Bowburn Methodist Church, Ash Terrace, Durham Road, Bowburn, Durham, DH6 5AS to convert it into holiday lets was refused.

Durham County Council met on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, for a meeting that included a report from the leader, questions from the public, and discussion of the Corporate Parenting Panel Annual Report. Councillors also voted against extending the time allocated to motions, and ultimately voted to rescind the Climate Emergency Declaration made in 2019, in favour of declaring a County Durham Care Emergency.

Central Durham Crematorium Joint Committee - Friday 27 June 2025 2.00 pm

The Central Durham Crematorium Joint Committee met to discuss a mid-year increase to cremation fees, the annual governance statement, and the revenue outturn for the financial year. Members were also scheduled to discuss a review of the committee's constitution and a forward plan for the coming year. In addition, the committee was expected to review a quarterly performance and operational report.
