Annual Meeting, Council - Wednesday 14 May 2025 7.00 pm

The annual meeting of Hackney Council included the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, the establishment of committees, and a review of procedure rules. Councillors were also scheduled to discuss appointments to outside bodies and a dispensation to extend the six-month rule for Councillor Michael Levy.

Audit Committee - Wednesday 9 April 2025 6.30 pm

The Hackney Council Audit Committee convened to discuss the auditor's annual report, financial updates, risk management, and future audit plans, with a significant focus on the council's financial sustainability and the challenges posed by increasing demand for services. The committee approved the proposed internal audit annual plan for 2025/26 and noted the contents of the annual report of the Audit Committee for 2024/25.

Living in Hackney Scrutiny Commission - Tuesday 25 March 2025 7.00 pm

The Living in Hackney Scrutiny Commission was scheduled to discuss the draft Hackney Housing Strategy 2025-40, recent scrutiny reports, and the commission's work programme for the 2024/25 municipal year. The meeting was also set to review actions from previous meetings. The commission was expected to focus on affordable housing delivery, private sector housing, and supported housing and living.

2025-26 Budget Setting, Council - Wednesday 26 February 2025 7.00 pm

This meeting was the last meeting of Hackney Council for the 2024/25 municipal year, and included a wide-ranging set of reports, a review of the proposed budget for 2025/26 and a number of motions submitted by the Green and Labour groups.

Living in Hackney Scrutiny Commission - Monday 10 February 2025 7.00 pm

The Commission heard presentations from the Council's Culture team and three Carnival groups: Tropical Isles, Paracarnival and Urban Touch. The meeting was called to consider the social, cultural and economic impact of Hackney Council's decision to no longer fund Hackney Carnival from the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) and to explore any opportunities to mitigate this decision. Whilst the Council is unable to fund Hackney Carnival in the future, they have secured £70,000 to be invested in 'Carnival Arts' in the borough. The Commission heard that how this money will be spent is to be co-designed with the Carnival Stakeholder Group and other relevant stakeholders.
