Statutory Licensing Sub-Committee - Wednesday 17 September 2025 1.00 pm
The Statutory Licensing Sub-Committee met to consider an application for a new premises licence for 5a North Road, Durham. The sub-committee heard objections from Durham Constabulary, Environmental Health, City of Durham Parish Council, Crossgate Community Partnership, and local residents, before adjourning to discuss the application in private. The decision of the sub-committee will be made public in due course.
Special, Statutory Licensing Sub-Committee - Wednesday 10 September 2025 1.00 pm
The Statutory Licensing Sub-Committee of County Durham Council met to consider an application to review the club premises certificate for the Barnard Castle Workingmen's Club and Institute (also referred to as Barnard Castle WMC). The application for review was made by Durham Constabulary, and a representation was also received from Mr Martyn Radcliffe. The sub-committee was scheduled to discuss the licensing objectives and consider what steps, if any, were appropriate to promote them.

The Area Planning Committee (Central and East) met to discuss two planning applications. A mixed-use development including a retail unit and student accommodation at Land South of South College, The Drive, Durham, DH1 3LD was approved, and a change of use application for Bowburn Methodist Church, Ash Terrace, Durham Road, Bowburn, Durham, DH6 5AS to convert it into holiday lets was refused.
Corporate Parenting Panel - Friday 5 September 2025 9.30 am
The Corporate Parenting Panel met to discuss the Durham Family Strategy, updates from Ofsted, and annual surveys from children in care and care leavers. The panel approved the new Durham Family Strategy 2025-2029 and agreed to change the name of the Corporate Parenting Panel to the Durham Family Panel. They also agreed to a Care Leavers Council representative and a housing representative taking co-opted positions on the panel.
