The Tower Hamlets Overview & Scrutiny Committee met to discuss a report on hate crime reporting and the direct award of contracts for domiciliary care services. Councillor Abdi Mohamed presented a report on hate crime reporting, which was well-received by the committee, and the committee agreed to send it to the cabinet. Councillor Abdul Wahid, Chair of Overview & Scrutiny Committee, led a meeting where the committee elected Councillor Abdul Mannan as Vice-Chair and appointed scrutiny lead members to sub-committees. The committee also reviewed a report on maternity care and a challenge session on net zero emissions, agreeing on recommendations for both.

The Tower Hamlets Council meeting on 14 May 2025 included the election of a new speaker and deputy speaker, and decisions on the make-up of committees for the municipal year. Councillor Suluk Ahmed was elected as the new speaker, and Councillor Bellal Uddin as deputy speaker. The council also voted to adopt an independent chair for the Audit Committee and re-adopted the council's constitution.

The Overview and Security Committee met to discuss the Mayor's achievements and priorities, the Mayor's Waste Improvement Programme, and a progress update on actions to support local markets and traders. Councillors questioned the Mayor on topics ranging from hate crime to housing, and agreed to revisit the waste improvement programme in six months to assess progress on data collection and community engagement.
