Standards Committee - Friday 12 September 2025 9.30 am
The Durham County Council Standards Committee met on 12 September 2025 to discuss several key issues, including updates to the Code of Conduct, the national standards picture, the Debate Not Hate campaign, and the recruitment of independent persons. The committee agreed to extend the term of one independent person, noted that another was stepping down, and agreed to proceed with shortlisting candidates for two new independent persons at a meeting on 1 December 2025. The committee also discussed the recruitment of town and parish council co-opted members and reviewed the committee's work programme for 2025/26.
Corporate Parenting Panel - Friday 5 September 2025 9.30 am
The Corporate Parenting Panel met to discuss the Durham Family Strategy, updates from Ofsted, and annual surveys from children in care and care leavers. The panel approved the new Durham Family Strategy 2025-2029 and agreed to change the name of the Corporate Parenting Panel to the Durham Family Panel. They also agreed to a Care Leavers Council representative and a housing representative taking co-opted positions on the panel.
Appeals and Complaints Sub-Committee - Wednesday 30 July 2025 10.00 am
The Appeals and Complaints Sub-Committee of County Durham Council convened on Wednesday 30 July 2025, to address an appeal from Children and Young People's Services. The meeting was scheduled to be held in Committee Room 1A at County Hall, Durham. Councillors Stephen Bowron, Kathryn Rooney and Mark Rowney were the scheduled attendees.
Corporate Parenting Panel - Friday 18 July 2025 9.30 am
The Corporate Parenting Panel were scheduled to discuss updates from Ofsted, reports on adoption services, and a sufficiency statement for children in care and care leavers, at a meeting on 18 July 2025. The panel was also scheduled to hear from young people of the Children in Care Council (CiCC) about their activities. Some of the items scheduled for discussion contained exempt information and were expected to be discussed in private.
County Council - Wednesday 16 July 2025 10.00 am
Durham County Council met on Wednesday, 16 July 2025, for a meeting that included a report from the leader, questions from the public, and discussion of the Corporate Parenting Panel Annual Report. Councillors also voted against extending the time allocated to motions, and ultimately voted to rescind the Climate Emergency Declaration made in 2019, in favour of declaring a County Durham Care Emergency.
