The General Purposes Committee met to discuss updates to the council's constitution and to review the initial plans for the member induction programme in 2026. The General Purposes Committee met on Tuesday 17 June 2025, to elect a vice-chair, approve the minutes from the previous meeting, note the committee's terms of reference, and approve nominations for local authority governors at maintained schools in Tower Hamlets. Councillor Abdul Wahid was elected as Vice-Chair of the General Purposes Committee for the municipal year 2025/2026.

Annual Meeting, Council - Wednesday, 14th May, 2025 7.00 p.m.

The Tower Hamlets Council meeting on 14 May 2025 included the election of a new speaker and deputy speaker, and decisions on the make-up of committees for the municipal year. Councillor Suluk Ahmed was elected as the new speaker, and Councillor Bellal Uddin as deputy speaker. The council also voted to adopt an independent chair for the Audit Committee and re-adopted the council's constitution.
