The Council of Sutton Council decided on 14/07/2025 to approve recommendations regarding the protection of green belt and metropolitan open land. The Council resolved to oppose the London Mayor's policy of building on green belt land and will write to the Mayor, lobby against the proposals, ensure Sutton's Local Plan does not use green belt land, and lobby central government for stronger protections.
