About

The role of the Safe Newcastle Board is to create a safe Newcastle by tackling crime, alcohol, drugs, anti-social behaviour and their impact.  By working with partners to develop effective, sustainable solutions to local concerns, improve confidence and build stronger communities”.   The partnership was formed following guidance from Central Government which advised joint working between Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships and Drug Action Teams.   Relationship to Police and Crime Commissioners There is a duty on Police and Crime Commissioners and Safe Newcastle to build strong relationships and work collaboratively, having regard to each other’s priorities and where possible/appropriate their respective plans should reflect those priorities.   The work of Safe Newcastle is led by:   Statutory Partners – defined as Responsible Authorities Newcastle City Council Northumbria Police Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service Primary Care Trust And Cooperating Member Organisations Northumbria Probation Trust Voluntary & Community Sector Your Homes Newcastle   Terms of Reference    The Terms of Reference are set out in the Constitution of the Safe Newcastle Board.   Membership   12 Members – Cabinet Member with responsibility for Community Safety, Assistant Director Operations; Director of Public Health; representative each from Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire & Rescue Authority, Northumbria Probation Trust, Your Homes Newcastle; the Community and Voluntary Sector; Universities and Youth Offending
