Purpose: Businesses and non-domestic organisations are required by Government to implement the ‘Simpler Recycling’ requirements by 31 March 2025 (one year earlier than households). The Cabinet will be asked to consider and recommend to Council, approval of changes to West Suffolk Council’s current commercial waste collection service tomeet the ‘Simpler Recycling’ requirements. Consideration of the financial implications associated with the new arrangements is also required, including the positive impact on the revenue budget in 2025-2026 from the expected income generated.
Content: Recommended to Council: (19 November 2024) That: 1. the requirement for businesses and non-domestic organisations to implement the requirements of Simpler Recycling by 31 March 2025, be noted. 2. Option A set out in section 3 of Report number: CAB/WS/24/058, be adopted to enable our commercial waste customers to be compliant. 3. The capital budget of £245,000 to purchase two food waste collection vehicles funded from prudential borrowing, be approved. 4. The one-off revenue budget of £38,000 to purchase food waste and recycling bins for customers funded from Invest to Save reserve, be approved. 5. The revenue budgets, as set out in section 5 of Report number: CAB/WS/24/058, be approved.
