Date of Decision: March 26, 2025
Purpose: The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Nature Recovery Strategy is a statutory document which seeks to guide What, Where and How to recover nature across the region. Cornwall Council is the responsible authority with responsibility for producing the strategy. We join a cohort of 48 local authorities across England. The strategy includes a written document which details the state of nature locally along side a list of priorities, and an online map which includes the sites protected for nature within the planning system and spaces where nature recovery should be prioritised.
Content: It was moved by Councillor Alvey, seconded by Councillor Worth and RESOLVED: 1. That the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly (CIoS) Nature Recovery Strategy (NRS) be adopted on behalf of Cornwall Council, with authority for any minor technical amendments that may be required delegated to the Service Director for Environment and Connectivity, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change. 2. That the approach to developing a Cornwall Council Nature Recovery Delivery Plan, which recognises Cornwall Council’s leadership role in delivering for nature and the role its assets play in contributing to 30 by 30 targets and income generation potential through emerging nature markets, supported by the Local Investment in Nature-Cornwall pilot, be endorsed. 3. That Cornwall Council works with CIoS Local Nature Partnership (LNP) and members of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Leadership Board to endorse the CIoS Nature Recovery Strategy and enact an appropriate governance mechanism for implementation and monitoring of the system wide approach required.
