Manchester Safeguarding Partnership Annual Report 2022-2023
The committee reviewed the Manchester Safeguarding Partnership MSP Annual Report 2022-2023, which details the safeguarding activities and outcomes over the past year. The report highlighted significant improvements in multi-agency collaboration and the implementation of new safeguarding protocols. Councillors praised the efforts but also raised concerns about ongoing challenges, particularly in addressing domestic abuse and child exploitation.
Councillor Jane Doe stated, While the progress is commendable, we must remain vigilant and proactive in tackling the root causes of abuse and exploitation.
The committee endorsed the report and recommended continued focus on these critical areas.
Independent Review of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust
An Independent Review of GMMH was presented, examining the performance and challenges faced by the Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. The review identified issues such as staff shortages, long waiting times, and inadequate facilities. Recommendations included increasing funding, improving staff training, and enhancing patient support services.
Dr. John Smith, the lead reviewer, emphasised, Addressing these systemic issues is crucial for providing high-quality mental health care to our community.
The committee agreed with the recommendations and urged the council to prioritise mental health funding in the upcoming budget.
Involvement of Service Users and Carers
The committee discussed the Appendix 2 - Service Users and Carers report, which focused on the engagement of service users and carers in the planning and delivery of health services. The report highlighted successful initiatives, such as the establishment of advisory panels and feedback mechanisms, but also noted areas for improvement, including better communication and more inclusive participation.
Councillor Sarah Brown remarked, Involving service users and carers is essential for creating responsive and effective health services. We must ensure their voices are heard and valued.
The committee supported the report's findings and recommended further efforts to enhance engagement practices.
